Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLAVerify App)

INTRODUCTION

All information described in this Privacy Policy is processed by Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority ("DVLA", "we", "us", or "our") as data controller. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.

This policy describes the types of information we may collect when you interact with us while using DVLA Verify services and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

1.1 This policy applies only to information we collect on the DVLAVerify App.

1.2 This policy does not apply to information collected offline, on other DVLA apps or websites, or by third parties.

1.3 Other websites and third parties may have their own privacy policies, which you should read before sharing data.

1.4 By downloading, registering with, or using this App, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY

DVLA may modify or update this Privacy Policy at any time without prior notice. We will post a notice of change on our website and provide in-app alerts on the DVLA Verify App when updates are made. This Privacy Policy is not a contract and does not create contractual rights or obligations.

HOW WE COLLECT AND RECEIVE YOUR INFORMATION

4.1 We collect information from you directly when you use or access the DVLAVerify App, communicate with us by email, phone, writing, customer service pages, social media, or use services like vehicle registration and driver licensing.

4.2 Automatic collection: The DVLAVerify App does not automatically collect device data, usage information, browser type, traffic data, location data, or other communication data.

4.3 Other sources: Except information provided by you, we do not collect personal information from other sources.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

The DVLAVerify App collects personal information from users without requiring account creation.

5.1 Information collected: live facial image, vehicle chassis number, transaction invoice number, and National Identification Card PIN.

5.2 Purposes: verify identity for vehicle registration services, authorize requested transactions, and notify users of updates and available services.

5.3 Legal basis: identity verification and ID checks under Regulation 7 of LI 2111; chassis number requirements under Act 683 and LI 2180; invoice number use under legitimate business interests.

5.4 Sensitive information: The app does not collect sensitive health or financial data, but requires camera access to capture facial images for identity verification.

DATA RETENTION

The app itself does not store user-provided data and does not require account creation. Identity verification data may be stored in operational systems where needed to provide requested services.

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for policy purposes or legal and regulatory obligations. Retention generally depends on the period of vehicle ownership and may remain for the vehicle's life on public roads.

Upon vehicle lay-off or when the vehicle is no longer in use, collected registration information will be deleted.

YOUR TRACKING PREFERENCES AND OPT OUT

The DVLAVerify App does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies to collect personal information and does not collect location data when you download or use the app.

WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

We may share data with contractors and service providers under confidentiality obligations, the National Identification Authority for identity verification, and government agencies where required by law, legal process, public safety, or legal defense purposes.

MINORS

The DVLAVerify App is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18. If you believe such data has been collected, please contact complaints@dvla.gov.gh or privacy@dvla.gov.gh.

DATA SECURITY

DVLA maintains physical, electronic, and managerial safeguards to protect information collected on the app. These safeguards are reviewed regularly to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, and improper use and to maintain data integrity.

Information is stored on secure servers behind firewalls. In case of data breaches, DVLA follows applicable breach notification and incident reporting requirements.
