USE OF UNAPPROVED VEHICLE NUMBER PLATES

The attention of the management of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has been drawn to the unscrupulous use of certain vehicle number plates in fragrant disregard of provisions in the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L. I. 2180).

In the past few weeks the picture of two vehicles with the number plate “GT Y₃ WↃ KROM 16” and “VOTE NPP 16”, the photograph of which are provided below, circulated extensively on social media much to the discomfiture of the management of DVLA.

The Authority wishes to remind the motoring public, particularly, vehicle owners and all other persons who may, out of ignorance, be producing or fitting such vehicle number plates that the responsibility for the manufacture of vehicle number plates is vested in the DVLA and under no circumstances should any individual or organisation arrogate to themselves such responsibilities.

In order to enhance national security, discussions have taken place between the DVLA and the MTTD and all vehicles fitted with those unapproved licence plates will be impounded and their owners dealt with according to law.
