TEMPORARY VEHICLE LAY-OFF AND CANCELLATION OF VEHICLE REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE

The management of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) wishes to inform the motoring public, especially vehicle owners, that sub-regulation (15) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 L. I. 2180, provides opportunity for vehicle owners to, when their motor vehicle is not in use but has a valid roadworthy certificate, apply for a Lay-off Certificate during the stipulated validity period for roadworthiness and for the cancellation of the Vehicle Registration Certificate.

When this is done, the roadworthy certificate could be re-activated and re-used for the stipulated lay-off period when the Vehicle Registration Certificate was also cancelled.

The Authority urges vehicle owners whose vehicles, for some reason, cannot be used over a considerable period of time, to take advantage of the provision and apply for a Lay-off and Cancellation of the Vehicle Registration Certificate so they can make some saving on the running of their vehicle(s).
