USAGE OF UNAPPROVED NUMBER PLATES ON MOTOR VEHICLES

It has come to the attention of the management of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) the increasing rate at which vehicle owners fix unapproved number plates, instead of the approved number plates issued by the DVLA, to their vehicle.

The Authority wishes to remind the general public, particularly, vehicle owners and persons who illegally produce unapproved vehicle number plates for sale that, the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012, L. I. 2180 vests the power to produce and sell vehicle registration numbers solely in the hands of the DVLA and that it is an offence punishable by law for any individual or organisation, apart from the DVLA, to produce and sell number plates for use to unsuspecting vehicle owners.

DVLA wishes, therefore, to strongly advise all persons who are into the business of producing unapproved vehicle number plates as well as vehicle owners who patronise those unapproved vehicle number plates, to cease forthwith their unpatriotic activities or face the full rigours of the law when arrested.

The Authority reminds all concerned, especially vehicle owners that they must, at all times, get their vehicle registration plates from the DVLA so that they are not short-changed by unapproved dealers in fake number plates.
